A keen interest

My creative journey started when I was young. With an ability to draw before I was able to properly spell what I was drawing.

School was a struggle

I moved a lot, from The Netherlands, to Malawi, to Scotland and back to The Netherlands. At every school I went to Teachers told me I should stop doodling and start focussing. But I was focussed, just not on the what they wanted me to focus on.

My mother, an artist herself, saw raw potential in my doodles. She helped turn that potential into a passion, so I never stopped dreaming and kept creating.

Both my parents have always pushed me to reach my full potential. I went to art school, where teachers understood the importance of dreaming. There teachers knew that being able to create is a super power, but it needs direction.

I gained the knowledge and tools to form my ideas, my doodles, my dreams, into feasible concepts and products and got the opportunity to intern at a media company and a award winning ad agency. My creativity flourished.

The student became the master

After art school I landed my first job at the Marketing and Communication Department of a non-profit foundation. I started out as a junior graphic designer and got a the opportunity to make mistakes and grow. Within a two years I became lead designer/art director and was fully responsible for the in- and external visual communication and campaigns. I didn’t just become a better version of myself, but helped another designer as well as several interns to grow their creative skills.

A creative professional

Today I’m an creative professional packed with years of experience in graphic, brand identity and web design and creating creative campaigns, content and advertisements. I have been able to build a robust portfolio with a diversity of interesting clients and collaborations.

I’m always developing my knowledge and am proud to have added certificates and diplomas for UI/UX Design, Web design, Video animation, Videography and more to my skillset.

Looking back, i feels strange to realise how some behaviour may be disapproved by one, but can be seen as talent by another. Without that recognition, that spark, I wouldn’t have become the creative professional I am today.
